The appearance of each American bow rocking horse is unique to Gerling, with a more lively look than the traditional English style horse.  Each wooden rocking horse is signed and dated. Elegant brass stirrups imported from England finish the saddles.

Each heirloom quality rocking horse is begun in the traditional manner by fastening blocks of wood together by gluing and clamping. They are then carved and finished. Each is a unique shape and you can request them in mahogany, cherry, black walnut, or maple.

Each rocking horse is handmade by Richard Gerling, so availability is very limited. Approximately 6 to 8 weeks are needed to finish a wooden rocking horse. However near the holidays you may need to order even further ahead to avoid disappointment, since horses are carved in the order that the deposit  is received. Different woods may be chosen for your rocking horse; including cherry, mahogany, black walnut, maple. The wood can be finished naturally with with my special formula "rub", for a lighter more modern appearance, or may be stained and then finished. Saddles can be solid wood , or hand made from leather. The generously flowing manes and tails are genuine horsehair. Imported English brass stirrups are used.

APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS: Overall length of bows 5 feet. Bows 16" apart. Horse is about 40" in length, hoof to hoof. Floor to ear height is 31". Floor to back height about 20"

Presently my rocking horses are $1200 plus shipping.  They are available  in black walnut, cherry, maple, and mahogany (cherry is $50 extra due to extra work to finish it). A deposit of $100 is needed to reserve your horse, (not refundable if order is cancelled after horse started ).  I carve the horses in the order that the deposits are received. This price remains significantly lower than other sculpted rocking horses that I am aware of. Prices are subject to change without notice, (though not , of course, if it is already ordered).

The  Special Collector's Edition rocking horses, with multiple rare woods and silver plated decoration, are $1750 plus shipping .

The new much larger Strong Horse is $3000 plus shipping of approximately $500.

Shipping: Approximately $400 shipped by truck in custom made crate to the 48 contiguous states.  Sometimes higher to the west coast, call and I can check for you.  We ship at cost, no extra. Subject to change if shipping company changes cost due to gas prices.  I do not charge anything over the actual cost. Canadian shipping can be arranged, costs depend on location . Since it is a child's toy, there has been no duty on Canadian shipments.

We are  able to ship overseas. Prices will be determined with shipping company at time of actual shipping. The rocking horses will be shipped by air and delivered to a major airport.  You are then responsible for any duties/customs if applicable and to arrange for transport to your home

Using mahogany with a reddish mahogany stain produces a lovely roan horse. Natural  oak or mahogany  would be pale like a palomino. Black walnut is naturally a rich deep blackish brown, without stain. Cherry is a red brown that gets deeper and richer in color the older it gets.

*PLEASE no dealer or wholesaler inquiries, these are limited quantity, one of a kind horses for people's homes.
